Starting a Second Life Business
By Sarah O'Connor
Second Life has become a widely popular online site that hosts a virtual 3-D world. Many people spend a great deal of time on this site. Spending leisure time is something that we all do from time to time and it’s not always a bad thing. Some people choose to watch TV, chat with friends, or play other games online.
If you are wasting time, you are not working toward your goals. One of the biggest problems of Second Life and its 3-D world is that a lot of time is wasted moving from place to place with little time spent considering particular objects.
Second Life is not a site where everyone should do business. It can be very complicated and tricky to operate a business there. Both women and men need to be careful about starting a business in Second Life. There are two types of companies that can be successful in Second Life: popular brands that catch attention and good designers/luxury.
Promote your company in Second Life through one of the following ways:
Entertainment
Entertainment tools are helpful for promoting businesses. Promote in amusement parks, on quests/treasure hunts, with visual experiences like light shows or fireworks, and in places like cruise ships and historical places.
Social Spaces
Many activities in Second Life revolve around meeting with friends and talking to unfamiliar people. Great branding opportunities include: clubs, malls, beaches, universities, dating schemes, and VIP locations. These are just a few suggestions for social spaces that you might use.
Virtual Products
Many people in Second Life want to modify their default appearance. Companies that offer something in this category can take advantage of selling with virtual products and use brand promotion. The overall process can result in making money.

Helping People
You can also make money by helping people in Second Life. Think about ways in which you might do this: builders, engineers, architects, trend spotters, personal shoppers, and so on.
Second LifeāThe Future?
Second Life will probably not change the web drastically or the ways that people interact with each other offline. But it can be a pleasant experience to participate in when you are not doing other work. Many people have already taken advantage of Second Life and more are joining all the time.
